As we head into the second month of the new year, Cirrus Medical Staffing is looking to see what critical issues are affecting nurses in 2010 and in this new decade. Health care reform is probably top of the list, as this is still a big unknown area that doesn’t show any promise of being resolved in the next few weeks. No matter if and/or when the reform does come, nurses’ roles are already changing from strictly bedside care to the community and home. Nurses have a voice and can influence Washington’s decisions. This year is predicted to see an increased trend of nurses getting involved with shaping the health care reform. So, speak up because it does affect you no matter where you live or practice.
The other critical issue that is affecting nurses in 2010 is staffing. In November, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that RN’s over all other professions will have the largest job growth by 2010 with a 22% increase. With that being said, travel nursing will be around for a long time!
