Love it or hate it, we’re 4 days away from Valentine’s Day. While no one knows for sure the story with Saint Valentine and how this day started, Americans have been practicing this holiday since the early 1700’s. The Cirrus Medical Recruiters wanted to share some of our most memorable Valentine’s (good or bad). Share with us some of your best or worst stories!
JL – I had a relatively new boyfriend at the time and had bought him a very nice cologne set (well nice for 1990’s). When it came time to exchange gifts, I realized that he hadn’t bought me anything! In a panic, he ran out to find me a gift and came back with a single pearl on a gold chain. Now before anyone says “awww” we’re not talking about a real pearl on a real gold chain…..probably one of the worst presents I’ve received in my adult life.
SS – I got married on Valentine’s day to my second husband. It was a very sweet ceremony with my 7 year old daughter as my maid of honor and his 5 year old son as the best man.
SG – It was my first (although I didn’t remember him at the time) Valentine’s with my now husband. We met in January and I honestly didn’t remember him by the time Valentine’s came around but I received this card in the mail from him. The card said “take your right hand and put it on your left shoulder and take your left hand and put it on your right shoulder…now squeeze! It’s a hug from me to you.” I thought he was absolutely crazy! Who is this guy and how did he get my address! Well that led to a phone call and now 10 years later, we’ve been married for 7 years and have a beautiful little girl. Maybe he’s not so crazy.
CM – Last year while my wife was out of work I took the day off and decided to surprise her. I showed up at home and rang the doorbell with a bouquet of roses in my hand. I had the roses in the peep hole so that she wouldn’t know who it was and she was so surprised!
MG – I took my girlfriend to a very nice restaurant downtown. The place wasn’t crowded at all and we were seated upstairs all alone next to the window where we could hear the jazz band playing on the street. She always knew that if and when I proposed it would be to the song “Wonderful Tonight.” Well of course that song started to play and I thought it would be funny…so I started to get down on one knee as a joke and then started laughing. She started crying immediately! Now looking back I realize how horrible of a thing that was to do.
AP – My best Valentine’s day was years ago. I showed up at my boyfriend’s house and there was a rose on the doorstep with a note. This led me to another room with another note and so the scavenger hunt began. It led me to a gorgeous diamond and sapphire bracelet and then he played a song that he had written just for me!
